Challenge
The client’s supply had been greatly reduced for a customized PC which was a criticalcomponent in the Bill of Materials for a diagnostic medical device. This medical device was a significantbusiness driver, and the client could not afford any breaks in supply chain continuity.
Solution
The typical process for the design of a technical solution begins with defining the specificationsin the engineering drawing, and then building a solution matching those specifications. In a constrained supply environment, however, it’s often necessary to adapt a solution design, by prioritizing component availability over exact specification match. In this case, Dynamic identified PC models that were a close match, and then converted those PCs to an exact match through peripherals and upgrades. We thenworked closely with the client’s engineering and quality teams to validate those modified designs,and began supplying the PCs in less than 3 weeks.
